Now at this point in his ever-evolving career, Steve has truly upped his game with the release of his stunning new album, “Dividing The Darkness.” To fulfill his creative vision for this project, Steve chose to work with one of the premier new age and contemporary instrumental producers in the world; the Grammy winning founder of the legendary Windham Hill Records, Mr. Will Ackerman. Along with Will’s roster of world-class studio musicians at Imaginary Road Studios, Steve has created an album that has garnered critical acclaim from highly regarded reviewers in the genre.
According to Steve: “Being a musician is about being able to put feelings, emotion, and expression into music that is relate-able to others and transcends verbal communication in a way that transports people from one place to another.” In fact, the maestro Ackerman himself refers to the emotional range heard in Steve’s recording as: “a testament to the resilience of the human soul and the power of hope.” Another reviewer described “Dividing The Darkness” as: A magnificent debut album from a composer and pianist who demonstrates an astonishing level of sophistication, intensity, and heartfelt emotional expressivity. The music is innovative, varied in style, and consistently distinctive and memorable.”
Recorded at the famous Imaginary Road Studios in rural Vermont and helmed by producers Will Ackerman and Tom Eaton (Eaton also mixed and mastered the album), Steve Rivera’s Dividing The Darkness is a stellar “true” debut (his first album was never commercially released), showcasing Rivera’s deft touch on the ivories, his versatile composing style, and his talent at playing a variety of piano music with uncommon grace and ease. Joining the pianist on the album are many guest artists who are well known for adding their profound talents to many Imaginary Road efforts, including cellist Eugene Friesen, violinist Charlie Bisharat, bassist Tony Levin, percussionist Jeff Haynes, vocalist Noah Wilding, among others.
Dividing The Darkness has charted at Zone Music Reporter, Secret Music, and One World Music Radio since it was released in October of 2015. Steve Rivera received a nomination as “Best New Artist” at Enlightened Piano Radio and was Featured Artist in April of 2016.
Clearly, Steve Rivera is an artist to keep on your radar!
